I’ve been thinking about the not guilty verdict George Zimmerman received recently. Even though he definitely killed Trayvon Martin, the jury was not convinced that George’s actions were not justified.
Many people feel a sense of defeat and anger over the outcome of this case and that is understandable.
But there is a very important lesson to be learned from this: “TAKING MATTERS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS CAN HAVE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES”.
I believe that both George and Trayvon are guilty of this….because that is the way of the world we live in. All you have to do is look around you, people are rude and violent and everyone seems to feel it is their right to “cuss out”, beat, stab or shoot anyone for any reason….what good do these actions do? They don’t solve problems or conflict, they only create more.
Taking matters into your own hands, particularly in situations of conflict or confrontation destroys everyone involved. Don’t think that George Zimmerman has or will have a moments peace….unless God gives it; and remember, God forgives all sin whenever a person repents and asks forgiveness.
Which one of us hasn’t taken matters into our own hands at some time in life? If you haven’t, keep living….you will!
The Word of God is full of Wisdom and teaches us how to live at peace in this world. And so rather than continuing to stir anger and hatred towards the George Zimmerman’s of the world, let’s show for the love of God and let his Wisdom guide our thoughts and actions:
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 Chronicles 32:8
With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.
My heart cries not only for Trayvon Martin and his family, but also for George Zimmerman and his family and EVERY FAMILY THAT HAS LOST A LOVED ONE TO VIOLENCE….there are no winners except those who are willing to lay down their wrath and let God fight their battles!
