The Light Of The World

I was thinking this morning, about all of the activity that occurs during the Christmas season. The hustle and bustle seems to escalate to new highs each year in this season of spending power and gift giving….because people want to make sure that they give their family and friends the best Christmas experience they’ve ever had.

My sister recently relayed a story about she and a friend going out to purchase lights to hang, but to their chagrin….there were no Christmas lights to be found; not at Walmart or Kmart or Target….the shelves were completely empty. So my sister’s friend made the comment, “I guess people are looking for some kind of “light” in this darkness, so they’ll make their own “light”.

What a truism!

Just look around you….the light displays on homes and businesses is astounding! I’ve never seen so many over the top yard displays….they’re huge and light up the blocks of many neighborhoods; and you know what…. some of them get awards by neighborhood associations for their efforts. And notice how much more dazzlingly bright the displays are at shopping malls and retailers!

What comes to mind as I look all around me during this “Christmas” season is – OSTENTATIOUS, pretentious, extravagant, flamboyant, flash inflated, conspicuous, vulgar, brash, high-flown, flashy, pompous, flaunted, flaunting, grandiose, crass, gaudy, showy, swanky (informal), snobbish, puffed up, specious, boastful, obtrusive, highfalutin.

I even see the churches competing with the world, in their displays of “Christmas”….with their, plays and concerts and over the top decorations and light displays, all for the sake of honoring the Saviour; But does this really honor the Lord? Is this the “Light” shining in the darkness that God has called us to be? I think, not.

We’ve become twisted Church, in our attempts to live up to the call on our lives in Matthew 5:16 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Yeshua/Jesus Christ is the “Light” of the world and the world desperately needs Him….and we the “Church” cannot fake it!

Isaiah 59:9
That is why justice is far from us, and righteousness doesn’t reach us. We hope for light, but we walk in darkness. We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

We can’t allow ourselves, as people of God, to remain in the condition described here in Isaiah 59:9. In order to become the “Light” that the world so needs Christ must be formed in us
Galatians 4:19
My children, I am suffering birth pains for you again until Christ is formed in you.

So my brothers and sister in Yeshua/Jesus Christ….let’s diligently seek to be the “beacons of Light” that the world needs and become this by following the instructions given us by God through the Holy Apostles of old:

Philippians 2:14-16 (AMP)
14Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [[a]against God] and [b]questioning and doubting [among yourselves],
15That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guiltless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world,

Prayer:
`Our Father in heaven! May your Name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. 11 Give us the food we need today. 12 Forgive us what we have done wrong, as we too have forgiven those who have wronged us. 13 And do not lead us into hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One. For kingship, power and glory are yours forever. Amen.'(Matthew 6:9-13 CJB)
So Father I pray that your people will turn away from all that is false and not present a “false light” to the world, but the “True Light” of Yeshua/Jesus Christ. I pray that Christ be formed in us your people. I ask these and all things in Yeshua/Jesus Holy Name. Amen!
